Regulation of gene expression by ajulemic acid

The effects of the anti-inflammatory, non-psychoactive cannabinoid-ajulemic acid (AjA)-were studied in cultured synoviocytes from arthritis patients. Cells were divided among treatments including untreated controls, AjA-treated, and prostaglandin J treated groups and were unstimulated or stimulated with TNF-a. Three gene arrays were used to access the expression of genes of inflammation and immunity in the NFkB pathway. Treatment with AjA significantly affected the expression of many genes-including IL-1, in the synoviocytes. Prostaglandin J did not show similar effects.
