Performance of tissue approximation techniques

Public

Tissue approximation is a surgical procedure where two opposing tissues are connected. The goal of this project was to develop an experimental fixture and standardized test procedure to quantitatively evaluate current suturing, gluing and laser welding tissue approximation methods. Evaluation of the fixture and protocol designed n this project was completed through a series of compliance and burst pressure tests on porcine aortas. The fixture and protocol design represents the first iteration of projects to functionally assess advancing tissue approximation technologies.
