Dynamic analysis and redesign of OHC valve trains
PublicDynamic behavior of the Single Overhead Cam and Dual Overhead Cam valve train configurations for the Dodge Neon 2.0L 16-valve in-line four cylinder engine was analyzed. Acceleration and displacement data were collected using an accelerometer and proximity probe over a range of 500 through 3500 RPM. A method was then developed, instituted, and verified for the differentiation of valve displacement data to obtain valve velocities and accelerations from proximity probe data. The data collected was then compared to theoretical displacement and acceleration curves. From this mechanical system analysis, recommendations were made on possible areas of improvement for the existing valve train systems as well as suggestions for future analysis.
