NASA currently uses the Automatic Cloud Coverage Assessment (ACCA) algorithm, to determine cloud coverage in images from the Landsat 7 satellite. This algorithm is implemented in C++ software. NASA wants to implement the algorithm into hardware in order to decrease the processing time of data through the algorithm. The hardware used in this project was Reconfigurable Computing (RCC). Pass One of the ACCA algorithm was implemented into RCC technology in order to increase the processing speed of the algorithm.
