Bamboo for Mining Reclamation and Renewable Energy
Öffentlich DepositedHerunterladbarer Inhalt
open in viewerIn Ghana, the small-scale mining industry severely damaged the environmental landscape of the country. The use of mercury and other heavy metals posed a serious threat to the public health and safety of local communities and ecosystems. To mediate this issue, our team worked with the community of Akyem Dwenase to understand the social framework of the mining industry. The objectives of this project were to analyze the environmental biochemistry of an inactive mining site and to map the site in preparation for soil remediation using the local bamboo species, Oxytenanthera abyssinica.
