Gilbertville Bridge design with a multi-use lane
PublicThe Gilbertville Bridge, which spans the Androscoggin River in Canton, Maine, has deteriorated over its 68-year existence. Its reconstruction considers the pros and cons of the inclusion of a multi-use lane to accommodate snowmobiles, horses, all-terrain vehicles and other recreational vehicles. Three options will be explored considering design and cost: (1) a two-lane bridge with no multi-use lane, (2) a two-lane bridge with an additional full service multi-use lane, and (3) a two-lane bridge with a restricted multi-use lane. The scope of this report includes estimating the loading, design of the main superstructure members, and design of the deck.
