Akyem Dwenase Sanitation

open in viewerAs the open defection rate rises in Ghana, the spread of feces-borne disease causes great health risk to the general population. The preexisting latrines in the community of Akyem Dwenase are failing due to overuse and are significantly less sanitary. We are working with the Design Development Lab to co-design and build public vermicomposting toilets, which were inspired by the promising results from the Global Sustainable Aid Project, GSAP. We created a construction manual outlining the fabrication and maintenance of the toilets, a financial letter to secure funding, and “How To” videos for additional clarification due to language barriers.
