open in viewerThis report discusses, in relatively non-scientific terms, the processes involved in forensic DNA fingerprinting. It begins with the origin of DNA in cells, explains how DNA fingerprints are created and interpreted by scientists, and how forensic detectives collect and preserve evidence. The report continues with a discussion of admissibility standards, submission of DNA evidence in court, landmark decisions, and well-publicized cases. It concludes with a brief discussion of the DNA databank and the future of forensic DNA.
