open in viewerHealthcare-Associated Pneumonia is a significant problem. Those who have been given an artificial airway are at risk for such an infection due to the possible aspiration of materials from the palatopharyngeal arch into the lungs. By reviewing videos of EMS intubations recorded with a video laryngoscope and retrospectively examining patient charts no correlation between aspirated material and pneumonia was discovered. However, with a larger data set, a significant correlation may be discovered.
