Analysis of Agricultural Development Opportunities in Buxton, Guyana

open in viewerThe goal of this Major Qualifying Project was to examine Guyana's agricultural, irrigation, and land policy systems so that a standard plan for agricultural development can be made that landowners in the country can use. This project was started because, even though Guyana has the resources it needs, it hasn't had a clear plan for making agricultural land use profitable. The Guyanese systems were analyzed using axiomatic design, scheduling, planning, cost-benefit analysis, and semi-structured interviews, among other things. The results suggest that landowners in Guyana could make economic and social progress if they follow the guidelines set out in the Standardized Agricultural Maintenance Plan. The conclusion is that agricultural rehabilitation may be good for the citizens of Guyana because the weather is good, but the high cost of starting the plan is a challenge. Local agricultural agencies or farm associations could help reduce these costs and give information on profitable crops, agricultural practices, marketing strategies, and financing options.
