a-lipoic acid effect on oxalate damage in LLC-PK cells

Public

The objective of this project was to determine if the antioxidant, -lipoic acid (LA), inhibits oxalate (OX) toxicity, via free radical production, on renal systems. The cell line, LLC-PK, was used as a model to observe this phenomenon in kidney cells. LA was found to have no effect preventing OX-induced damage at the dosages tested. The implications of this study should encourage further studies of novel drugs which may have the property of reducing oxidative damage to renal systems.
