Office design -- structure, site and fire
PublicThis report examines the design of multi-story office buildings. Three sites were chosen to explore zoning, access, parking and fire safety issues. Structural design alternatives for layout, member spacing, W shapes and open web joists were compared for cost and constructability. An inventory of options for the exterior wall systems was compiled, and the use of masonry was compared with the use of glazed aluminum. Fire modeling was used to investigate flashover conditions and the performance of structural elements.
