open in viewerThe goal of this project was to identify how the nature of emergency service work in the Victorian emergency management sector may inadvertently impact children of emergency service workers, and to suggest effective support options to improve their wellbeing. Six focus groups with twenty-three children of emergency service workers from across Victoria were run to gain insight on the experiences these children have and any support options they recommend. Eight interviews with a variety of sector organization leaders, academic experts, WorkCover agents, and mental health professionals were conducted to get an idea of what is currently being done to help the children of emergency service workers. Findings were shared through a comprehensive report containing recommendations. A video highlighting the lived experiences of these children was created to bring awareness to the unique challenges children of emergency service workers face.
