Exploring bis-hydrogen bond donors in two- and three-component self-assembly

A systematic study of the ability of bis-hydrogen bond donors to form binary and ternary three-component cocrystals with substituted pyridines is performed. Hydroquinone and tetramethylterephthalic acid are used as the central donor molecules, and mono, and disubstituted pyridines are used as terminal acceptors. Three types of cocrystals with donors and acceptors in 2:1, 2:2, and 2:1:1 ratio are obtained and their structures are analyzed with IR and NMR spectroscopy. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of a 2:2 cocrystal is reported.
