Formula SAE powertrain design
PúblicoThe Formula SAE Powertrain is comprised of two major components, the engine and drivetrain. Due to the nature of the project, the team was required to follow a strict set of design rules as written by the Society of Automotive Engineers. Making sure to comply with these rules, the team began its design. The goal set for this year's engine was to generate a maximum power output of 80 horsepower. This was to be accomplished by proper fuel map design, intake/exhaust flow optimization, internal flow modifications and custom fuel injection system. The drivetrain assembly was designed to be packaged in a tight enclosure. This was to assist in the overall reduction of vehicle weight and size. This goal was accomplished by using lightweight material, Pro/Engineer Finite Element Analysis for removing excess material, halfshaft size and material optimization, and Pro/Engineer modeling packages. Preliminary testing has shown that we have met most of our goals.
