Ergonomic improvement of inspection tools

The manufacturing of aircraft engine components is a tool intensive process. In GE Aircraft Engines at Hookset, NH, current ergonomic problems caused by certain inspection tools created the need for improved designs. New designs were developed for four tools with the use of ergonomic study, in particular weight and shape adjustments. These new designs were evaluated with advanced computer modeling and finite element analysis. The resulting designs have been prototyped and will be used to replace the current inspection tools.
