Dynamics of mixed-genotype and single-genotype C. parvum infections

Public

Because is not uncommon for microparasitic infections to exhibit multiple genotypes within a single host, "mixed-genotype" infections often have significant influence on the dynamics of the infection, and presumably the exhibition and severity of symptoms. In this project, the effect of mixed infections was examined using a mouse model of cryptosporidiosis by infecting a sample group of mice with equal numbers of C. parvum oocysts of two genotypes and comparing infection progress to that of mice infected with single-genotype C. parvum oocysts.
