Sequencing of the equine infectious anemia virus

Public

This report presents the methods used to sequence the Equine Infectious Anemia virus from three inapparent carriers who show positive results to the ELISA and Coggins test. Attempts to isolate the viral DNA were done by PCR, leukocyte cultures and infection of an EIA negative foal with blood from an EIA positive gelding. Reasons for failure to isolate the virus, as well as theoretical explanations for the inability of this virus to be transmitted are discussed.
