As the world becomes more internet-oriented, it presents several unique challenges for people with blindness and visual impairments to access local news. Audio Journal is a radio reading service in Worcester, MA that broadcasts local news to blind and visually impaired people in Central Massachusetts. They wanted to improve access to their content by allowing their users to listen on demand without having to access their website. To achieve this goal, our project group created an iPhone app that was determined to be the best option towards improving accessibility for Audio Journal’s current and future listeners. The app was developed and tested in phases over the course of 21 weeks, and is available on the App Store for download.
