Coolant nozzle design and effectiveness evalutation [sic]

Public

Properly designed coolant nozzles are essential in grinding to reducing heat damage caused by increasing material removal rates. A patented nozzle profile provided by Saint-Gobain Abrasives, Inc. was analyzed for effects on cohesion. Various nozzle sizes were examined for cohesiveness and their spray angles measured by CAD image overlay. Nozzles were also modeled using computational fluid dynamics to support experimental data. Results suggest that high pressure, small diameter nozzles provide the most cohesive sprays with optimal velocity gradients.
