Designing a Sustainable Shrimping Policy for Costa Rica
PublicSince Costa Rica’s bottom trawling ban, there has been an urgent need to establish and encourage a sustainable and economically viable shrimping method. Our team determined and analyzed potential alternatives, and how these might best be implemented in the local context. By working with MarViva, an oceanic conservation organization, we conducted social, economic, and environmental analyses. The result of these analyses lay the groundwork for MarViva’s campaign to influence authorities and legislators to help answer questions and set policy, not only on shrimping, but also concerning consumers’ roles in the promotion of more sustainable shrimp production.
