Commercial Fishing Safety and EPIRB Use

open in viewerEmergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) play an essential role in United States Coast Guards (USCG) search and rescue mission. Regrettably, EPIRBs also have a high rate of false activations. The goal of this project was to gather information on reasons for these false activations and recommend possible solutions to this problem, which annually costs the USCG over $3 million. The outcome of this project was an informational brochure and recommended changes to EPIRB standards.
