The removal of TCE from water using ionic liquid

Public

The goal of this project was to study the ability of ionic liquids to remove organic contaminants from water. The partitioning of trichloroethylene from the aqueous phase to the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimadazolium hexafluorophosphate [bmim][PF] was analyzed experimentally. In this study, kinetics, the effect of pH on partitioning, and a partitioning coefficient were found. A feasibility study of oxidation using Fenton's reagent indicated potential for destruction of the TCE in the ionic liquid.
