The goal of this project is to design software for the AccuSure Pill Count Verification System, which counts pills as they fall into pill bottles. The primary problem with the original design is its inability to distinguish two touching or overlapping pills from a single pill. We have developed many algorithms, one of which is usable under normal conditions. Our testing has yielded a greater-than 75% success rate for identifying multiple pills, however, under worst case conditions, it would not meet real-time constraints with the current hardware implementation.
