Design of an SAE heavy lift aircraft
PublicThis MQP's goal was to design and fabricate a radio-controlled aircraft to participate in SAE's 1999 Aero Design East Heavy Lift Aircraft competition. The main design goal was to improve and optimize last year's design. Optimized aerodynamic characteristics included an improved drag coefficient analysis and a more efficient wing. New fabrication techniques, materials, and wing structural design ultimately created a stronger aircraft. The final design incorporated a conventional tail, 8'6" tapered high wing, tricycle landing gear, and a 12"x6° propeller.
