Leaderless load balancing in a Beowulf cluster

Public

PANTS (PANTS Application Node Transparency System) is a suite of programs designed to add transparent load balancing to a Beowulf cluster. Previous versions depended on a leader node to perform load balancing, which results in a single point of failure and scalability problems. We created three new load balancing policies that eliminate the leader node and compared their performance. Our results show that load balancing can be performed without a leader node while achieving improved system performance.
