open in viewerThis report evaluates the recycling programs of three municipalities in Cartago, Costa Rica. Each municipality must establish an Environmental Management Department as well as a recycling program. Municipalities and entities such as COMCURE work together to develop recycling programs and improve those that are already established. Three objectives were chosen to evaluate each of the programs; to analyze the effectiveness of recycling education, current state, and major advantages and disadvantages of each program. Site assessments, surveys, archival research, and interviews were used to accomplish these objectives. Areas in need of modification were identified from compiled data and customized recommendations were made to improve and expand recycling programs.
