fMRI Analysis of Brain Refractory Period Activity in Nicotine-Addicted Rat Models

open in viewerThe objective of this study was to use functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging to investigate the brain activity of nicotine-addicted rats when the stimulus was introduced during the refractory period. The results confirmed that regions of the brain normally activated by nicotine are relatively inactive during the refractory period. These results coupled with other studies of drug reaction can be used in the development of pharmaceuticals aimed at specific regions of the brain or at determining targeted drug delivery schedules.
