This project attempted to reduce the risk of concussion for ice hockey players by incorporating neck support into a helmet. This support utilizes dilatant fluids to provide a restoring moment during impact to reduce head acceleration. Computational analysis and mathematical modelling were performed to establish the desired design specifications. A pneumatic impact test with a head-form equipped with accelerometers was constructed for evaluation. The head impact power equation will be used to determine whether the prototype reduces risk of concussion.
