Design of an earthquake resistant high-rise
PublicThe purpose of this report is to design and analyze the structural steel backbone for a 12 story high-rise building that is using a special moment resisting frame system. The design of the building uses the load resistance factored design as opposed to the conventional allowable stress design system. The basis for this design was predicated upon the nature of this design philosophy to create a more economical design without sacrificing strength requirements. The restraining system was designed to resist typical building loads and with respect to horizontal loads, it is located in a region that is prone to high and strong seismic activities. For this project seismic loads will govern the design of the special moment resisting frame system.
