open in viewerThrough effectively applying cross-cultural design principles, maps can accurately represent geographical features as well as reveal authentic stories about communities. Since 2012, no updated map of Akyem Dwenase, a rural village in Eastern Region of Ghana, has been publicly available. This project aimed to create updated geographical and abstract representations of the village. Our team collaborated with the community to produce an official aerial map and a user-friendly community map. These maps will aid village leadership in planning for future development while honoring the community's identity and fostering pride among members. We believe that this collaborative model can be applied globally to accommodate cultural aspirations in project design and implementation.
