Design of a destructive weld integrity fixture

The sponsor desires to improve its methods of testing the welds on two-part assemblies that are randomly sampled from their production line. Current methods do not meet all of the design specifications since the strength of individual welds are not tested. An understanding of weld failure was established. Through microscopic investigation and a mathematical model, welds were observed to be failing in tension. A new, automated apparatus was designed that tests individual welds and minimizes operator involvement.
