The existing system for blocking "robots" (malicious programs) from breaking into user's accounts on eBay is inadequate. The system fails to block the programs about 50 percent of the time. A new system is devised and tested that has a failure rate of under ten percent. It requires the user to read and input a slightly distorted number that is difficult for a computer to read. This new system is planned for inclusion on the live eBay site.
