Locker With Accessible High Shelf
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerMany people with conditions affecting mobility struggle with everyday motions like reaching high places or lifting weighted objects. Designing a mechanism that reduces the strain these types of movements make on individuals would allow them to access heights without the need for a step stool or ladder. The group designed a pull-down mechanism that reduced the force needed to move stored items from an upright, higher point to an accessible height, and vice versa. Using a four-bar linkage, the team created a low-cost, easy-to-assemble design that could be scaled to other locker dimensions. The mechanism utilizes a spring mechanism to make an accessible solution to storage for people with all ranges of mobility.
