open in viewerThis project, prepared for the Ministerio del Ambiente y Energia (MINAE) in Costa Rica, focuses on developing a plan for a biological research station in the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge. This station would encourage the participation of local people in support of scientific and conservation activities. The involvement of local residents will enhance their environmental awareness as well as bring economic benefits. The IQP team used background research, interviews, site visits, and direct observations at Cano Negro as well as investigation on two other research stations as the basis for recommendations on how to develop a research station that will promote greater harmony between community and environmental needs.
