This project sought to identify areas in which law enforcement agencies could implement Geographic Information System (GIS) technology and how Caribbean Pictometry, Inc. (CPI) could provide assistance. Through analysis of interviews and crime data, we determined that there were no standards of technology or data collection being enforced in Puerto Rico. Our recommendations were aimed at the law enforcement agencies as well as CPI. We recommend that a task force be created that is made up of representatives from interested agencies, and whose responsibilities will be to set and enforce standards for the level of technology used and the variables collected by the agencies. CPI should also pursue opportunities in private industries for crime-mapping applications.
