Transgenic animals carry foreign DNA deliberately inserted into their genomes for specific scientific purposes. Transgenic animals can be engineered to improve human welfare in agriculture, industry, and medicine. Although the use of these animals in research provides new hope for discovery in many scientific fields, there still exist questions and ethical concerns regarding the usage and creation of such animals. The purpose of this project is to provide a brief understanding of what DNA is and how it works within a cell, along with dwelling on the specific methods scientists use to create transgenic animals. This project also aims to highlight the most notable transgenic animals created to date, and also to examine the legal and ethical ramifications of this technology.
