Student Work

Logic circuit test equipment

Public

This project developed the concepts for a digital logic circuit design competition based on the game of football. The competition will be implemented into a digital logic circuit and state machine design course for undergraduate engineers. The instructional tools necessary to allow student groups to participate in the competition will also be provided. In the competition, each group will design "teams" made up of logic circuits that will "play" each other under the supervision of a PC-based "referee". After learning the rules of the competition, the students will be asked to create logic circuits that implement their game play and strategy. The logic circuits will be implemented on field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). A "referee" computer will serve as the interface to coordinate the game play between two "teams", each "team" being either student designed logic or PC-based artificial intelligence. Software to referee the game was designed, and all necessary hardware and documentation required to operate the game was developed.
