Analysis of Permeability, the Effects on Flow Properties, and Applications of Porous Fibrous Metal Aluminums
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerPorous metals are widely attracive because of their unique physical structures and advanced heat transfer and flow properties. This study focuses on finding potential applications of four differing samples of a new porous fibrous metal made by Mitsubishi Materials. Two experiments were used to measure the average flow velocity and pressure drop in order to find permeability. Computer simulations were used to identify flow behaviors based on the average flow velocity and pressure drop. It was found that in both the experimental and simulation methods, all samples showed high permeability value estimations. Generally, higher permeability values were found to be desirable for applications with fluid or air flow. Permeability was shown to affect the performance in a wide range of applications.
