Casein Kinase-1𝛿 Delta is Required for Postnatal Survival in Mice

open in viewerCasein kinase-1-Delta(CK1d) is an enzyme known to phosphorylate several key proteins in the circadian rhythm cycle, and in particular to phosphorylate Per to induce its movement back into the nucleus to regulate the circadian period. Two previous studies (Xu et al. 2005; Machida 2007) indicated CK1d knock out (KO) mice may be unable to survive to birth. Data from this MQP indicate some of the KO pups actually survive to gestational day (GD) 20, very near birth, and the morphology of their major organs equals that of wild type mice, which provides hope that if several of these mice can be kept alive, the reason for their death may be discovered and CK1d's role may be better understood.
