Global precipitation mission data acquisition and analysis system

In 2006, the Global Precipitation Mission (GPM) will be launched. This mission has been developed to help scientists further understand clouds and rainfall droplets in our atmosphere. A key component to this mission is a new interferometry based Synthetically Thinned Array Radiometer (STAR) that is being used to gather more data with a faster revisit time than previous weather satellites. Our contribution to this mission was to help develop the data acquisition and analysis systems for the interferometer's test platform. In particular, the system that we developed will be the primary command and data handling system for the test platform and will process data needed to prove that the STAR interferometer works as designed.
