Eyetracking and prompts for improved learning

open in viewerThis study was designed to test the effectiveness of a series of automatic prompts provided to students engaged in reading text and viewing images (versus a control group of students not given automatic prompts). Participants were brought in to learn about plate tectonics by the use of microworlds ( http://www.scienceassistments.org). The prompts were given by a pedagogical agent, a dinosaur named Rex, who directed students to read the text and view images in a more expert-like fashion. Prompts were given automatically based on data from an eye tracking device that tracked the students' gaze on the screen.
