Treatment of Manganese in West Boylston Drinking Water

open in viewerThis project focused on the treatment of manganese in West Boylston Drinking water using polyphosphate. Laboratory experiments were conducted using E-pure water with added manganese, iron, and phosphate. West Boylston raw water was also tested with the addition of the polyphosphate chemical. Results for the experiments conducted under the current time frame showed that the polyphosphate was not working. A new hypothesis was developed as to why this was so. Other ions may be competing for the polyphosphate and the reactions times may need to be much longer to see the results of oxidation. Future work is needed.
