The development, implementation, and characterization of a plasma sprayed thermal barrier coating

Public

The process parameters to apply a plasma sprayed, partially stabilized zirconia ceramic thermal barrier coating to erosion bars that meets E-160 specifications were established and the statistical variation in the key microstructural features of these E-bars was experimentally determined. Several recommendations were also made to improve subsequent operations and analysis techniques. Pratt & Whitney will utilize this information to make viable comparisons of operation after Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Spray (APPS) # 2 is moved from North Haven to East Hartford.
