Investigation of multiple twisting of a wire brush manufacturing machine
PúblicoAnderson Products of Worcester, MA currently manufactures wire brushes that are assembled around an eight-hole, round disk. First, a wire bundle is threaded through one of eight holes. Next, the wire is to cut to length. Finally, the wire is twisted into a knot. Then the disk is indexed to the next hole and the process repeats until all holes have been filled. This project investigated the feasibility and possibility of a machine design capable of performing the three-step assembly on at least two holes in the disk at once. In order to investigate multiple twisting, we first designed a test fixture to determine the required torque to twist a bundle of wire. Using this required torque, we then selected the appropriate motors for the application. Finally, we designed a new twisting mechanism and determined the possibility of the number of simultaneous twist [sic]. The resulted machine design is expected to be capable of performing the three-step assembly on four holes in the disk at a time.
