International use of the building information model

Public

The use of the building information model (BIM), a new method that utilizes 4-dimensional modeling to design, construct and operate a building project, is discussed. Barriers to implementation in the US were explored, with focus on organizational barriers. Current organizational models were analyzed so that a BIM-supportive organization model could be developed. Additionally, an analytical literature review determined the relative global competitive position of the US AEC industry. Finally, preliminary design alternatives and their associated costs were explored using BIM.
