Greywater Biofiltration: Designing a System for Oteima University's Batipa Field Station

open in viewerMany households in western Panama do not have a wastewater system, causing a negative impact on the environment by introducing contaminated water to the ecosystem. Our goal was to understand and meet the people’s water filtration needs. We developed a two-stage greywater biofiltration prototype, consisting of a bucket filter containing particulate filters and a planter bed. We constructed this system using local tools and materials, prioritizing appropriate technology, and ensuring replicability. Our design returns the filtered greywater to the environment.
