Achieving steric control in porphyrin dimers using cerium metalation
PublicThe purpose of this project was to synthesize porphyrin dimers using cerium metalation. Four different acceptor-donor porphyrins were synthesized by placing strong electron acceptor groups at the 5, 15 positions and strong electron donor groups at the 10, 20 positions. These porphyrins were metalated using cerium and an attempt was made to crystallize the dimers. No dimerized crystals were formed; there is, however, strong NMR evidence to suggest that cerium metalated dimers were synthesized.
