Fundecooperación: Developing an Assessment for the Adapta2+ Program

open in viewerFundecooperación para el Desarrollo Sostenible created Adapta2+, a multifaceted program that assists vulnerable groups in Costa Rica that are impacted by climate change. With Adapta2+ concluding soon, Fundecooperación wanted to identify the successes and drawbacks of Adapta2+ for its reimplementation and upscaling in the near future. Our project was to create a comprehensive assessment of the Adapta2+ program so Fundecooperación could (1) identify and reimplement successful factors, (2) have a deeper understanding of why those factors were effective, and (3) understand which elements contribute to upscaling. To accomplish this, our team analyzed technical reports and online supporting information on the various projects of Adapta2+ and interviewed the personnel involved in the projects. We found that the most common and relevant themes from our interviews were empowering local individuals and groups within communities and how funding self-sufficiency can eliminate recurring economic hardships (Chapter 4). We believe that our strongest recommendations were becoming more involved with cooperatives, improving/reorganizing social media, and implementing a “sampling” system (Chapter 5).
