Network performance measurement tool

Public

Increases in network traffic negatively affect the system state as seen by users. We implemented a tool that calculates latency and packet loss metrics over Transmission Control Protocol and User Datagram Protocol to evaluate network performance. After overcoming time synchronization and resolution issues, we performed on-campus and off-campus measurements of the WPI network. Our data analysis shows two trends: higher off-campus latency and packet loss than on-campus, and higher latency values over TCP than UDP.
